I think a preorder feature could be interesting, especially for import/export compagny.

Basically I think it coul use a simillar schema than estimate delivery date, when you define a date for the preorder item, the estimate delivery should appear (following rules)

For example:

I have 1 rule:

On my product I select preorder feature and define the release date (1 february)

On the frontend, when the customer select the product, under the Order button we could see a similar message than estimate delivery date (ie: Estimate delivery: 15-20 february (Official release 1 february)

I guess you should add a new menu in Theme setting (to define a custom message for preorder item, and how it should appear on the single product page and/or on the archive page).
